Richard Fallis passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022 in Marshall, Wisconsin surrounded by family. He had been receiving hospice services at home and had endured fourteen years of health issues. Born in Ottawa, Canada July 11, 1957 he lived a life full of family, broadcasting, politics, sales, faith and humor.
Richard shared his love of God with all. He had a sense of humor that was appreciated by all who met him. Even telemarketers were greeted with either humor or a message of God. He delighted in those moments.
Family was important to him and he always made sure that people knew he loved them and appreciated them being in his life. He enjoyed helping others and as a son of a florist, appreciated flowers and birds. He would spend hours pulling any weed discovered in the yard and considered it to be therapeutic. It was hard for him when he could no longer do what many would have considered a menial task.
He was a treasure trove of history related to the Fallis and Maxwell families. Richard considered himself a storyteller and was able to weave the tales in memorable ways, usually intertwined with his humor. Richard had two sets of children and considered himself lucky to have them. He was proud of his sons and daughter and followed their accomplishments any way he could. He wanted them to know the family history and often told them the stories. He celebrated special moments with them and was glad the internet existed so he could see occasions he otherwise would have missed.
Richard moved to Wisconsin in 2003 and became an American citizen as soon as he could. This fulfilled his mother’s prediction that he would be an American long before the plan had ever been formulated. Richard was proud of his citizenship status and would often be heard declaring, “I am an American.”
Richard was a strong man. Every new illness and challenge, he would fight his way back. Doctors were amazed and often commented they had never met anyone who had survived so much. Richard wanted to see his children all grow up and graduate high school. He fell short of this goal by just one year. However, he told us he was ready and prepared to join those he loved in heaven. He missed his mother, Ethel Maxwell Fallis and his father, Wellsley Wellington Fallis.
Richard will be remembered for the love, faith, and joy he brought to others. His presence was unmistakable and his laughter will be missed. He was a humble man who never bragged about his many accomplishments in broadcasting or government.
He is survived by his four children Benjamin and Christopher (Sun Prairie), Rosalie and Richard (Canada) and his wife, Martha. Memorial service will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church in Madison, Wisconsin on July 23 at 1:00. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made for his sons’ college education.
