Mary Ann Mautz passed away on May 28, 2019, at her home in East Bristol. She was born on October 22 in East Bristol, the daughter of Adalbert and Antonia (Sutter) Mautz. She was a graduate of Columbus High School, Columbia County Teachers College, and UW-Whitewater where she earned her master’s degree in elementary education. She was an elementary school teacher of 4th-6th grades in Windsor, Wisconsin for 43 years.
She was an active member and supporter of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in East Bristol for her entire life and attended mass daily in her retirement. She thought the world of her nieces, nephews, and her great-nieces and great-nephews who could always count on her to attend their sporting, school, and church events. After retiring, she enjoyed gardening; watching TV, especially Wisconsin sports; doing crossword puzzles; going for rides; attending church festivals; dancing the polka; and having lunch with friends and family. She loved talking with people and telling stories.
Mary Ann is survived by her brother, Bud Mautz of Madison; nieces and nephews, John (Arline) Barman, James (Stacy Billings) Mautz, Jeff (Sue) Mautz, Staci (John) Willems, Traci (Jeff) Chisholm; great-nieces and great-nephews, David Barman; Taylor and Alissa Mautz; Isabella, Dominic, and Vinnie Mariani; and Connor and Caden Chisholm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Robert Mautz; brother, Henry Mautz; niece, De Anne Mautz; and sister-in-law, Joann Mautz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1935 County Hwy V, Sun Prairie with Father Vince Brewer presiding. A prayer of the rosary will be held at 10 a.m. There will be no visitation prior to the service. The service will be followed by a burial at St. Joseph Cemetery then a luncheon in the church hall featuring a story of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mary Ann and the family would like to thank Eunice, Wanda, Mary, Diane, Gary, Marvin and the various other caregivers for assisting her in recent years.
