Marjory E. Palmiter (nee Roeber) died peacefully Monday, December 19, 2011 at her home for the past year in Sun Prairie. Prior to that, Marge lived independently in her home 50+ years on Madison's west side.
Marge, 88, was born August 9, 1923 in Edgerton to Emil and Emma Roeber. She grew up in Edgerton, graduated from Edgerton High School in 1941 and earned her BA from Milton College in 1946. Marge taught English spring semester at Cadotte High School in 1946 and then attended graduate school at the UW from Sept. 1946 to June 1947. From June 1947 through Aug. 1949, Marge taught English at Milton College, returning to the UW in the fall of 1949 where she also taught English as a teaching assistant. Marge earned her master's degree from the UW in English Literature in 1950.
Marge married Harry A. Palmiter Dec. 16, 1950 in Edgerton. They lived in Milwaukee for the first 8 years and the rest of their lives together in Madison, where they raised their daughter Lynn, and son Steve. Harry passed away in March, 2002.
Marge was a lifelong reader and learner, as well as an accomplished and lifetime member of the Madison Lapidary Club.
Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; brother, Donald; parents and grandparents. Marge is survived by her daughter, Lynn P. Serack (Kenneth) Snoqualmie, WA; son, Steven J. Palmiter (Diane) Madison, WI, and their daughters, Kathryn and Colleen; niece, Donna R. Crosby (Michael) Fircrest, WA; and nephews, Carl Thomas Roeber (Blanqui) of Puyallup, WA, and John (Kimberly) Roeber of Snoqualmie, WA.
Marge will be buried beside her husband and parents in Fassett Cemetery, Edgerton, WI
