Margaret “Peggy” Kennedy, age 94, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the Sun Prairie Health Center. She was born on November 14, 1916 in Madison. She was the third of 10 children of Harold and Mary (Nolan) Togstad. She attended St Raphael grade school and graduated from West High School. She married Gerald R. Kennedy at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in San Diego on September 25, 1943.
Peg and her husband were very involved in their church and community. They volunteered at Central Wisconsin Center, St. Vincent de Paul, Sun Prairie food pantry, Willows Nursing Home, St Martin House, and Sacred Hearts School. Peg was an avid reader and had a gift for writing. Her greatest gift was being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and foster mother to seven babies through Catholic Social Services.
She is survived by her 11 children, James (Janet) of Largo, FL, Kathleen (Fred) Caywood of Waunakee, Joseph (Debra) of Omaha, NE, Mary (Craig) Payne of Baraboo, Paul (Stephanie) of Wausau, Susan (Joel) Barsness of Stuart, FL, Jeanne (John) Bruns of Sheboygan, Peggy Mattila of Poynette, Timothy (Sandy) of Merrillan, Gerald Jr. (Donna) of Sheboygan Falls, Carol (Louis) Lasecki of Middleton; 28 grandchildren, Sarah (Bill) Steelnack, Bridget (Demian) Bandera, James (Sandra) Stewart, Daniel (Melanie) Kennedy, Jennifer (Eric) Molina, Kevin (Fiancée Amity) Kennedy, Scott (Diane) Egger, Michelle (Jay) Coats, Michael (Jenny) Payne, Doug (Kerry) Kennedy, Erin (Dan) Thornton, Tiffany (John) Reddick, Mark (Stephany) Baliff, Haley (Matt) Weygandt, Heidi (Josh) Carmack, John (Kelli) Bruns, Hilari (Jeff) Rottier, Hannah (Eric) Schroeder, Havalyn (Alex) Bruns, Steve Kundert, Kristy (T.J.) McLeod, Christopher (Stacey) Kennedy, Patrick Kennedy, Amber Kennedy, Adley Kennedy, Courtney Harris, Louis (Ashley) Lasecki, Michael Lasecki; 6 step grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren; a brother Robert Togstad of Madison.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gerald in 1999, a grandson, James Bruns; a son in law, Pat Mattila, daughter in law, Ruthie Kennedy; 5 sisters, Helen, Jane, Elizabeth, Dorothy, Joanne; 3 brothers, James, Lawrence and Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. Burial will be in Sacred Hearts Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The family suggest in lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Sacred Hearts School Endowment Fund, Sunshine Place in Sun Prairie or St. Vincent DePaul Society.
