Lois J. Martineau (Zastrow), at age 85, was called home to peace with our Savior Jesus Christ on April 17,2018. Lois was born in St. Paul, MN to Theodore and Jeanette Martineau. Her older brother, Ronnie, and she went on many long walks with their mother through historical areas of the Twin Cities. Lois graduated from Central High School, and then took classes at the Univ. of MN. She worked in the Minnesota State Taxation Dept. for 2 years. Later, she worked for I.T.& T. until her marriage to Donald Zastrow in 1953. They had met mountain climbing in the Teton Mountains in Wyoming in 1952. They were blessed with four children that they raised together. During their early family years, they had moved 14 times in 15 years due to job transfers. The last move was from their home in Mankato, MN to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin in 1968.
An extremely talented and intelligent lady, Lois had a wide variety of interests. She served as a Sunday School teacher, Sun. School supervisor, choir member for years at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, volunteered at Madison General Hospital, was a member of the 20th Century Club, and also the antique club in Sun Prairie, “Junque Unlimited”. Lois also enjoyed working at Scott's Greenhouse, especially during the Farmers' Market on the Square in Madison! One of her favorite occasions was the Sesquicentennial Celebration of 1987 with the 20th Century Club, in period costume, at their tent by the Sun Prairie Historical Museum. Interior decorating was a passion of Lois's, painting rooms, accenting with bead board, paneling, chair rails, wallpapering, etc. Her friend at the Frame Workshop helped Lois to personally matt and frame paintings and prints with professional style and skill. Lois enjoyed planning and growing her beautiful gardens. Skilled at needlepoint, Lois prepared lovely art pieces, given as gifts, especially to each of her grandchildren. She learned how to play piano in her 50's, enjoying and creating more music. And making intricately designed birdhouses for individuals became another project for Lois. Her love of reading and desire for knowledge kept Lois surrounded by books and magazines. Lois loved traveling later in life which included trips to Paris, Amsterdam, Turkey and Morroco. Her witty sense of humor delighted us all.
Lois was devoted to her family. Beloved mother of Linda(Cliff) Plunkett, Dawn(Bill), Doug(Kathie) Zastrow, and Greg(Robin) Zastrow. Cherished grandmother of Joshua(Maija), Jasey, Nate(Sarah), Danielle(Ryan), Shane, Brie(Peter), Keisa(Marcus), Rein(Pamela), Keali(Marcel), Luke(Lauren) and Jake. Treasured great-grandma of Alexis, Malaina, Malakai and Logan, and Saja. Lois's legacy is her family, friends, and the lives of people she touched. She is further survived by her brother, Keith (Denise) Martineau and sister Lynne(George) Mitshulis, and many nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Jeanette Martineau, her brother, Ronald and his wife, Maxine Martineau, and Donald Zastrow.
