Laura S. Schey, age 93, died on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at HospiceCare, Inc., in Fitchburg. She was born on November 11, 1916, in Columbus, to Hugo and Clara (Thom) Callies. After a couple of years the family moved to Sun Prairie, where she spent the rest of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Emden A. Schey, her two brothers, Edward and Alfred Callies and a grandson, Randolph Fisher. Laura is the beloved mother of Barbara (Thomas) Fisher of Lodi, and Jeanne (Gerald) Briggs of Sun Prairie. She will be sorely missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Edward (Kelli) Fisher, Madeline and Zoltan of Decatur Island, WA; Michael (Ginger) Fisher, Ian, Zach and Darian of Sun Prairie; Laura Fisher (Fredrik) Sjoblom, Erika and Haley of Oak Creek, CO; Amy Briggs (Chris) Kornkven, Ryan and Elena of Helenville; and Gerald (Monica) Briggs, Emily and Matthew of Sun Prairie; and sisters-in-law, Irene Schey of Brookfield, Mable Kuharski of Monona, and Dorothy Callies of Sun Prairie. She was a loving, caring and generous person. Her entire life was spent devoted to her family. She enjoyed fishing and traveling with her husband and spent many hours, both at home and at their cottage in Lac du Flambeau, teaching children, grandchildren, and pseudo grandchildren how to play cards and enjoy life. She was always upbeat and positive in spite of the growing physical limitations and discomfort that punctuated her later years. Laura’s good humor and witty repartee, along with the tender, loving care given by the HospiceCare Staff saw her through to the end. She so appreciated the many special visits from her family and friends who demonstrated how much she has meant to them. Words cannot adequately impart how much she was loved and how much she will be missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie, with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. Burial will be held at Sacred Hearts Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2010, at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made to Sacred Hearts Endowment Fund or HospiceCare, Inc..
You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let live on
You can cry and close your mind,
Be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
