Karen (Bollig) Kaltenberg, age 58 passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at her home in Cottage Grove, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born June 20, 1956 in Madison and was the daughter of Edward and Beatrice (Kalscheuer) Bollig. She married Joseph Kaltenberg on December 15, 1973 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. Karen enjoyed crafts, gardening and casino trips. Karen was also a great help to Joe on the farm.
Survivors include her husband Joe; 3 daughters, Vicki (Mike) Wachtendonk of Bloomer, Joanne (Blair) Kitelinger of Prairie du Sac, and Laura Escoto of Bloomer; grandchildren, Justin and Eric Wachtendonk, Dominick Escoto, Payton and Amelia Kitelinger; mother Beatrice Bollig; brothers, Dick (Deb) of Cottage Grove, Don (Connie), Chuck (Linda), Bill (Pat) all of Sun Prairie, Fred (Kathy Kessinger) of Wisconsin Dells, sister Joyce Zweifel (Rick Stoughton) of Waunakee; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois (Rod) Gross, Cheryl Kaltenberg, and Bill (JoAnn) Kaltenberg of Sun Prairie, Jeff Kaltenberg (Melanie Treffert) and Dale (Angie) Kaltenberg of DeForest, and Kim (Paul) Marks of Fall River.
She was preceded in death by a son Keith Kaltenberg; father Ed Bollig; father-in-law Joe Kaltenberg; mother-in-law Rita Kaltenberg; and sister-in-law Joyce Grobeschmidt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus St., Sun Prairie, with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. Burial will be at Medina Cemetery in Marshall. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015, at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Special thanks to Dr. Frontiera and his staff, and Home Health United Hospice for the wonderful care they gave mom. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Sacred Hearts Building Fund or Home Health United Hospice.
