Karen “Schoobie” S. Knuth, age 72, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at her home on Friday, May 14, 2021. She was born in Antigo on September 30, 1948 to Bernard and Berniece Schumitsch
Karen attended St. John Catholic Grade School in Antigo and graduated from Antigo High School. She then moved to Madison where she attended Madison School of Business. She went on to work at Professional Data Processing and later U.S. Cellular, from where she retired.
On September 27, 1986 she was united in marriage to Larry Knuth.
The Priest introduced them as Schoobie and Buster, as they were affectionately known to family and friends. Her husband survives.
Karen is further survived by 2 sisters, Nancy Wojtasiak, Corinne (Mike) Wolter; and 1 brother, Richard (Helen) Schumitsch; sisters-in-law Rita (Brad) Walker and Rene`e (John) Melotik; godchildren Michael Wolter, Lisa Gauger, Tylor Gauger, and Angie Melotik; and several other loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, which she adored.
She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Lyle and Lila Knuth; brother-in-law Al Wojtasiak; sister-in-law, Kitty Schumitsch; and niece, Dawn Wojtasiak.
Karen was an avid Badger, Brewer, Packer and NASCAR fan. She also enjoyed watching her nieces and nephews participate in their activities, letting others in the stands know they were related to her. Playing cards with family and friends was a favorite past time.
Karen did not have an easy life health wise, having polio as a child, but was strong, and accepted life as it came. Even though her activities were limited by the necessity for oxygen these past years, it did not stop her from enjoying the comfort of her porch, family, and her friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 229 Columbus St. Sun Prairie with Father Lawrence Oparaji presiding. A visitation will be held from 10:00 until the time of Mass Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Sacred Hearts Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to American Family Children’s Hospital, Dane County Humane Society, and American Lung Association.
