Joseph A. Kalscheur, age 94, passed away on May 20, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 23, 1916 in Pine Bluff and was the son of Herman and Helena Kalscheur. He married Katherine Bollig on Sept. 10, 1940 and they farmed together for 28 years in Pine Bluff and Verona. They moved to Sun Prairie in 1968 where Joe worked at Hanley’s Implement for 2 years and then at the Porcelain Factory as a machinist for 9 years until his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. He was also a member of Catholic Family for 72 years and the Knights of Columbus for 63 years. He spent his retirement years traveling nationwide with his wife. They visited 48 out of the 50 states, missing Rhode Island and Hawaii. For 23 years Joe and his wife spent their winters in Mississippi with their daughter Rhoda, who is a member of Pax Christi Franciscans. Joe was an honorary member of Pax Christi Franciscans Associates. He spent thousands of hours working for St. Vincent de Paul Stores in Wisconsin and also fixing toys for the poor in Mississippi. While in Mississippi he perfected his woodworking and remodeling skills by helping at LaVerna House, the church and school. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing cards.
He will be dearly missed by his 7 children, Bob (Jane), Nancy, David (Carol), Rhoda, Eileen (Bob) Aeschbach, Mary (Neal) Maas and Clara, 16 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Florence Krantz and Sister Bernadette Kalscheur SSSF, brother and sister-in-laws, Theresa Ripp, Leonard and Delores Bollig, Katie Haack, Mary Haack, Beatrice Bollig, and Joyce Bollig. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brothers and sisters, Herman (Blanche), Jake (May), John (Marcella), Frank (Dorothy), Josephine(Abel) Gehin, Irene (Richard) Farrell, Lawrence (Armella), Edward(Pat), Mary (Virgil) Hollfelder, Loretta (Tony) Krantz, Theresa (infant), Walter (Virginia), Helen (Vic) Noltner, Raphael Krantz, and Art (Rose) and brother and sister-in–laws, Ray Ripp, Bob & Rhoda Bollig, Otto Bollig (infant), Herb Bollig, Walter Haack, Ed Bollig and Ray Bollig.
A wake service will be held Monday evening, May 23 from 4-7 PM, at Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. Sun Prairie with the rosary prayed at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday morning, May 24 at 11:00 AM, with visitation from 9:30-10:45 AM in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church 221 Columbus St. Sun Prairie. Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt will preside. Burial will be held at Sacred Hearts Cemetery.
