Jon Phillip Gilbertson, age 70 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, surrounded by his family and in his home after a short battle with cancer. He was born on June 3, 1940 in Orfordville to Clarence and Iolene (Georgeson) Gilbertson. He graduated from Orfordville High School in 1958. He attended U.W. Platteville and received his degree in education. He played baritone in the Platteville College Band. In June of 1968 he married Ann Ford in Central City, Iowa. He taught school for a few years in Illinois and then many years in Sun Prairie. After retiring, Jon enjoyed spending time with family, listening to music, and spending time at the family cabin with Ann. He and Ann delighted in having afternoon tea and reading the newspaper and their latest library book. Throughout Jon’s life he enjoyed watching sports on television and was a huge sports fan of both the Packers and Badgers. Taking family trips and spending time with the grandchildren meant a great deal to him. Jon will be dearly missed by his family.
Jon is survived by his loving wife Ann of 43 years; three children, Kimberly Fiske (Kierre) of Prairie Du Sac, Jason Gilbertson (Katja) of Chanhassen, MN, Pamela Jorgensen (Jerry) of Algonquin, IL; grandchildren, Zachary Fiske, Alex Fiske, Nicholas Fiske, Sophie Fiske, Miranda Gilbertson, Brian Gilbertson, Nadia Gilbertson, Dilan Gilbertson, Ally Jorgensen, Elena Jorgensen, Emma Jorgensen; sisters, Joan Norby of Beloit, Carol Aimers of Beloit, Iolene Ray Gilbertson of Orfordville; mother-in-law, Persis Ford of Marion, IA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Gary Schwegler of Marion, IA; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 220 South Main St, Deforest at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011 With Pastor Jerry A. Olson Presiding. Burial will be in Luther Valley Cemetery in Rock County. Visitation will be held at the church 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, May 12, 2011.
The family would like to thank the caring 6th floor staff and Oncology physicians at the UW Hospital. We would also like to give a special thank you to all the caregivers from HospiceCare. Your patience and compassion was greatly appreciated and needed. We couldn’t have gotten through this without you.
