John “Jack” Shipley, age 84, passed away at his home after a short illness. He was born on October 1, 1938 in Madison and was the son of James and Marie (Geier) Shipley. He married Beverly Hoffland on September 24, 1960 at St. Raphaels Cathedral in Madison.
As a kid Jack attended St. Raphaels school and graduated from Edgewood High School. After high school Jack started his working life with GTE where he spent 39 ½ years in public relations and management before retiring.
Living is Sun Prairie for most of his life Jack was active with local Sun Prairie clubs but much of his time was spent with the Sun Prairie Youth Hockey Assoc and was instrumental in building Sun Prairie’s first indoor ice facility. He was later inducted into the Sun Prairie Hockey Hall of Fame. You could also find Jack during the summer at Sheehan Park umpiring the city softball leagues as well as coaching youth baseball and hockey. He was also an avid pheasant hunter so trips to Iowa and South Dakota were common as he loved working the fields with his dogs.
Jack also loved to travel, he and Bev traveled extensively in the US and Europe with Switzerland being part of many itineraries. But most often the drive north to Arbor Vitae to enjoy the cottage and being outdoors was where he liked to be. Family and friends hope that he now has another Beautiful Vue.
Jack is survived by wife Beverly; 3 sons Patrick (Tina) Shipley, Madeline and Katherine, Kevin (Traci) Shipley, Autumn, Kelly (Kristi) Shipley, Alek and Anna;2 sisters Marilyn (Fred) Kinney, Casey (Larry) Linde, a brother, Tom (Beth) Shipley; sister-in-law Janet Mahlkuch; brother-in-law, John (Marga) Hoffland and nieces and nephews.
