Jerome I. Benz, age 75, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at HospiceCare Inc. in Fitchburg. He was born on March 17, 1936 in Martinsville and was the son of Peter and Sybilla (Wipperfurth) Benz. He married Judy Mickelson on January 18, 1958 at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961. Jerome worked as a carpenter for Sugden Builders and then owned his own business as Benz Carpentry.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; 2 children, Jill (Michael) Schultz of Sun Prairie, Bryan (Sally) Benz of Evansville, 3 grandchildren, Bryce Benz, Pyper and Aslyn Schultz a sister, Luella Jesberger; a brother, Wm. “Pete” (Lois) Benz; sister-in-law, Carolyn Benz all of Sun Prairie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Milton and brother-in-law, Robert Jesberger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie, with Father John Putzer presiding. Burial will be at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday October 26, 2011 at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
