I was stunned to hear of Jacob's passing at Mass this evening. I remember one school Mass when Danielle was very little. I think Jacob's class may have been singing or doing readings for the Mass. He did his best to pointedly ignore Danielle as she stood on the kneeler waving and yelling "Hi Jacob". He never broke or waved back but after Mass when she ran up to him in the hall he gave her a big hug. I didn't know him personally but that is one of the sweetest memories I have from St. Jerome not involving my daughters. I pray that God will keep and watch over you. Angela Tompach

We worked with Jacob in the ecological restoration realm. Jacob was well-respected by our professional community. He was passionate, patient, and great with people. He had excellent skills and instincts as an ecologist, and he had a great desire to continue learning at every opportunity. Jacob was a great person to work with and he will be dearly missed.

To Michelle, Katara, and Jake's family and friends, I offer my sincere condolences. I work with Michelle at Yahara House (YH) and had a few opportunities to meet Jake and Katara. Jake shared his professional opinion when we took on a huge landscaping project and he graciously allowed us to use his pickup truck and tools. Katara seems to enjoy visiting YH, and she is all smiles and fun when she does. We are a very close knit community at YH and the sudden loss of Jake is so difficult to reconcile. We are sad and grieving for Michelle but we are here for you, whatever you need. A couple of years ago, incredible selfless support from family, friends, and co-workers helped my wife and our two surviving children cope with the sudden loss of our middle child. Time and continued support help us with our grief. It is easier now to recall the good memories rather than struggles. Jake, I so wish I could shake your hand and thank you for being who you are. Instead I will cherish the memories and support your family the best I can. Brad Schlough Clubhouse Director of Yahara House

I hired Jake to do ecolological restoration shortly after he graduated from Platteville. He was a hard worker and always had an upbeat attitude, even when field conditions were bad. He will be missed greatly. I'm sad to hear of his passing.

I will remember all the good times I had with Jake. We tried to plan to go to a Packer game every year. He was one of my closest friends. Whenever I was hanging out with him, I could plan on a hug and a few words of encouragement. He got our fantasy football league started and lended me his golf club, The Devastator. We took a few swings today remembering Jake. I will miss my friend. I love you all affected by Jake’s passing.
