Footville – Harold “Harry” Kopplin, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Our House in Janesville, Wisconsin.
He was born on November 16, 1930 in Town of Spring Valley to Frank and Elvira (Kuck) Kopplin.
He was a lifelong dairy farmer working the land and living in the home he was born in.
He married Cleo Post and preceded him in death in 1997
Harold was proud to be a master machinist at Fairbanks Morse where he completed projects for NASA. He played baseball (Catcher as a young man earning the nickname “Lefty” because of his being left handed. He loved the Milwaukee Brave but lost interest when they moved to Atlanta. The Brewers were not the same thing in Harry’s words.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman taking many trips to Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Canada with lifelong friends Wayne Coon, Edward Hoerler and Roger Gunnelson. Harold also was a foster parent to several children but adopted his only son Kenneth (Hannah) Kopplin. He is survived by 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In his later years he enjoyed taking trips to Branson, Missouri, Nashville, Tennessee, Las Vegas and Mexico with longtime friend Karen Willing. Harry could be found most mornings playing cards at B’Ners bar in Footville or nights at the Moose Lodge in Janesville or Star Zenith in Beloit. Harold touched many lives and was a great story teller, kind soul and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister, Arlene Kessey.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Newcomer-Silverthorn Chapel on the Hill, Orfordville. Graveside services will be held at East Magnolia Cemetery on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
