Georgianna Emma Theresa Belanger passed away peacefully at New Perspective Senior Living, Sun Prairie Wisconsin on July 16, 2022. She was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on September 27, 1933, to Meleana (Langlois) Raarup and Carl Raarup.
Georgianna worked in the Sweet Shop, at the time, a well-known hamburger and malt shop in Ashland, owned by her parents. While she was waiting on customers, one particular guy, Elden Belanger, kept coming in for coffee, more than any other customer. He worked at the local Chevrolet dealer, located across the street.
Eventually, they went on a date. At the insistence of her mother, the date was, chaperoned by her 12-year-old sister, Jessie. The date went well and more followed. They were married on May 2, 1953. They built a good life together.
In addition to working at the Sweet Shop, she worked in her mother’s bridal shop, and as a teacher’s aide at Thorp grade school when the family moved to Thorp, Wisconsin. When her kids started college, to bring in a little extra money, she opened Portside Imports, a second hand/antique shop in her garage. She and Elden owned and operated the Thorp Farmer’s Mart, for 12 years, until Elden’s passing in 1989.
Georgianna loved to bake, sew, sing, play the organ and garden. She loved taking care of her beloved dogs.
She came to New Perspective Senior Living in Sun Prairie September 2015 and moved to Betty’s Harbor, the memory care unit, in 2019. Her time in Sun Prairie involved lunches that always included ice cream, precious visits with her great grandkids and countless hours sitting in the common area fireplace with her friends.
She is survived by her three children, Wayne (Jean) Belanger, Vicky Sass, and Bonnie (Bill) Ebben, sister Jessie(Alan) Anderson, sister-in-law Diana Raarup, five grandchildren, Kellie Schmidt (Ryan), Becky Phillips (Nick), Andrew Sass (Deven), Kristan Adkins (Jay), Michael Sass (Cathryn), and nine great grandchildren; Muriel, Harold, Cameron, Owen, Bryson, Mya, Peter, Daniel, and Clara
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elden Belanger, her brother, Edward Raarup, and son-in-law, David Sass.
A private burial service with her family will be held in Rochester, Minnesota.
Georgianna’s family would like to thank New Perspective and Heartland Hospice for their care during the last years of her life.
