Ferne Brown

June 13, 1918 - March 16, 2021

Ferne G. Brown, age 102, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at her home. She was born on June 13, 1918 and was the daughter of Henry and Tilla (Larson) Gerstad. She was baptized at the Bristol Lutheran Church. She attended two one-room schools, Maple Grove and Oak View and graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1936. Ferne married Donald Schluckebier on April 6, 1941. Ferne, Don and Dianne together operated a dairy farm in Sun Prairie, Don preceded her in death in 1967. She discontinued farming and moved to Sun Prairie. She also worked at Manchester’s, Madison Kipp, Oscar Mayer, drove bus and Hilldale Bank after moving to Madison. She then married Curtis Brown on December 24, 1968, They moved back to Sun Prairie in 1971 to farm again. There they built a new home and traveled the United States and Canada by motor home which was a long time goal. Ferne’s happiest days of her life where helping care for her grandchildren. Ferne is survived by husband Curtis; a daughter Dianne Meyer; 2 grandchildren Kaila and Ben and her great grandchildren Cooper and Camden. A private service will be held.

Sorry to hear of Fern's passing. Beautiful picture of her-just as I remember her! Sounds like she lived a long good life and did many things she enjoyed over the years. I remember my parents talking fondly of Fern (and you too, Curt) over the years and reminiscing about their younger years. I t was with great sorrow we found out about fern passing. I know that Curt and Fern had a number of great times traveling with my parents over the years. We are forever thankful for that. Dear Curt and Dianne I was saddened to hear of Ferne's passing. My deepest sympathies to you. An amazing woman, and amazing life. Her always positive attitude and outlook always was so evident to me. Certainly she was never one to consider or factor age into anything. A life of hard work and always caring for others. Eight years ago I had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful, classy lady and her husband Curt. Ferne was a loving, full of life lady who enjoyed many things in her life and loved her adventures at the casino. She always was dressed in flattering outfits, her hair was perfect and she always had a smile on her face. I shared many hours with Ferne and Curt and I will miss this wonderful woman everyday. R.I.P. Ferne and we will meet at the casino soon!

Curt, Diane, & family. Ferne was such a beautiful person. We met back in the early 60's when we lived on the farm next door. Larry was an honorary pallbearer when Don passed away. My deepest sympathy to all the family. Hugs & Prayers. Curt please keep in touch. Mary
