David Allen Lee, age 51, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and son. David was born on May 14, 1971 as the second child to James and Mary (Schardt) Lee. He attended Pecatonica Area School and graduated in 1989 as valedictorian of his class. He was a talented athlete, active in track, basketball, and cross country. He went on to attend UW-Platteville, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Education. He then continued to receive a Master’s degree in Education at UW-La Crosse. After graduation, he became a high school math teacher at Sun Prairie High School for 28 years. With his love of sports, he also coached high school golf and basketball. He married his college sweetheart, Kit, on June 5, 1999 and became an endearing and dedicated father to his son, Jacob. He loved taking and watching Jacob flourish in swimming, basketball, and bowling. He created amazing woodwork, enjoyed gardening with his family, and loved challenging people in fantasy football.
He is survived by his wife Kit, son Jacob, his parents James and Mary, brother Greg (Sandy), and sister Kristine (Paul) Manchester, father in-law Bounnane, mother in-law Done, brother in-laws Bobby (Anne),Andrew (Nancy), Wali (Nicole), sister in-law Malay (Dennis) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Glenn and Gertrude Lee and Lawrence and Margaret Schardt. David will be truly missed by all of those he has left behind. We will always feel his presence in our hearts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert Dr. in Sun Prairie with Msgr. Donn Heiar presiding. Interment will be at Sacred Hearts Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Saturday. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.

Mr. Lee was the best Math teacher I had. Even when he was sick, he showed up to class with a great attitude and was always there to help. He will be missed.

I remember my freshman year In 2017 Coach Lee taught me how to straighten out my drive <3

David was a great classmate and friend. We were all devastated to hear of his passing. Always kind and took his sports seriously. I see the posts on what an amazing teacher he was. I would like to think (aside from us having an amazing teacher in Mr. Wiemiller) that I maybe played a role in his career choice. I sat next to David in Algebra II and I am sure he thought, well, if I can help her , I can help anyone...Kidding aside, my deepest sympathies to you all. I can't imagine the magnitude of this loss for your family, school, and community. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. -Luanne

Very sorry to hear of Mr. Lee's passing. He was one of my favorite teachers at SPHS, and I was fortunate to have him write one of my reference letters that allowed me to attend UW-Madison. I'm thankful for everything he taught me about math, golf and life. Rest in peace Mr. Lee, you will be missed.

Mr. Lee was one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. I used to go to his room during my study hall because I felt there was always more to learn from him, and for the kindness, warmth and joy he radiated. His calm, even-keeled personality made me think that an introvert like me could become a teacher too. I think maybe there’s no way to quantify the impact he has had on my life and on the lives of so many others. I feel lucky to have known David both as a teacher and more recently as a colleague. We’ll miss him so much, and I send my condolences to his family. Ken

Mr. Lee was a kind and intelligent coach and teacher. The “and teacher” part is what I will remember most about Mr. Lee, as he is perhaps the only SPHS bball / baseball / fball coach i remember who also taught an AP class. He had the rare level of patience required to wrangle a bunch of over energetic teenage boys while also being able to clearly communicate the foundational concepts of math and statistics. i wish i would have appreciated this more in the aughts and hope sun prairie athletes can be coached by more STEM teachers in the future.

There aren't words to express how highly I regarded Dave. He was such an incredibly kind and thoughtful young man when I knew him as a student and athlete. I was not surprised to see that he had become a teacher. It combined his intelligence and his sharing spirit. There really aren't words to describe the loss.

I am extremely sad to hear this news. He was such an incredible teacher to our daughters. They truly enjoyed him and appreciated all he did for them. Daily, he went above and beyond to make math "fun" for them. All of our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Such a huge loss to so many.

I had the honor of working with David at the high school. What a fantastic man and teacher. We are all better for having had him in our lives.

My condolences to the Lee Family. When I think of David, I think kindness. I will always remember how kind he was when we were in high school. Our class lost a good one!

I am overwhelmed with sadness. Looking at old photos and signed yearbooks tonight, I am humbled by and reminded of Dave's greatness. Those treasured years spent with my best friend were long ago but never forgotten. I want to extend my condolences to Kit and Jacob, Jim and Mary, Greg, Kristine and other family and friends.

So Sorry for your loss. We made dozens of memories with Coach Lee that will last a lifetime. You'll be missed but not forgotten
