LaVonne and family I am so sorry for the loss of Darrell. My deepest condolences to you at his passing. It was truly a privilege and honor to care for him and know him through so many years. the last line in his obituary was so touching to me. Also touching to me was his passing due to acute myeloid leukemia after my father died from that same dreadful illness at about the very same age. I will always remember his positive and bright outlook on life and unassuming caring way. My best to all. Greg Motl

I am so sorry to read of Darrell's death! I liked him and enjoyed him mainly through softball in Sun Prairie! I never played for him or any softball but my brother Tom did for many years! My softball contact with Darrell was as an umpire! In that regard he was always respectful good sport and a good manager. He did have a dramatic effect on my life one Sunday evening. There was a tournament going on at Wetmore which I was schedule to umpire the championship game. I had played Home Talent ball that afternoon and we were eating supper at my mother's house. He came there and asked if I would work the plate of consolation championship game. The teams playing had asked Darrell if that young umpire could work their game! I was already scheduled to work the championship game! So it was the first time somebody called me a good umpire! That was very early on in what became 35 year avocation! I am sure that Tom and Darrell have already organized a team if not a league upstairs. But that team from heaven would never beat the team from hell, because the devil has all the umpires. God Love you all and I send my deepest condolences!
