Carol Catherine (Skalitzky) Breunig, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, after a brief illness, at UW Hospital in Madison. She was born February 14, 1938, the first of four children to Carl and Grace Skalitzky of rural Waterloo, WI. As a farm girl, she worked hard helping out on the farm, and learned the importance of hard work. Carol was graduated from Waterloo High School in 1956. Carol raised a family of four children, first in rural Waterloo, then settling in Marshall. Carol lived in Sun Prairie for more than 30 years.
Carol worked for over 30 years at Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Marshall. She also worked in various restaurants and retail jobs throughout the years, enjoying meeting and helping many people. She worked at her last job, selling window treatments at JC Penney, until she was almost 80. Carol was a member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. It is fitting that Carol was born on Valentine’s Day, because love of her family and friends was the center of her life. They will always remember her loving care, concern and involvement. Carol loved to bake, and friends and family always enjoyed the tasty treats she made.
She is survived by her children: Timothy Breunig of Canon City, CO; Terrance (Ellen) Breunig of Hartland, WI; Todd (Susie Kaminski) Breunig and Tricia (Greg) Urlakis both of Brookfield, WI. She is survived by her former spouse and father of her children, Thomas Breunig of Brookfield, WI. Carol loved her grandchildren who also survive her: Tiffany Breunig, Tyler Breunig, Taylor Breunig, Melanie (Breunig) Krol, Deanna Breunig, Makayla Breunig, Jordan Breunig, and Desi Breunig. She is survived by her brother, Daniel (Amy) Skalitzky of Waterloo, sister, Nancy Motl of Sun Prairie, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grand nephews. She also is survived by longtime companion Dan Wiedenfeld. Carol considered his extended family to be her family as well, loving them and spending time with them.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Kenneth Skalitzky, and her sister-in-law, Lucille Skalitzky.
